The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Frustration Regarding Size Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the revised method more closely matches similar services.
It has advised users to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Changes
Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, based in Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
